History
The first Life Chain was formed in 1987 when approximately 2500 Christians stood united in prayer for one hour on both sides of a three-mile route through the cities of Yuba City and Marysville, California, holding signs stating the truth about abortion. |
In September of 1989, 101 churches came together in Bakersfield, California for the second Life Chain with some 7500 participants. Since then, the National Life Chain has spread to over 1500 cities in the U.S. and Canada. |
Wilmington began participating in 1991 and the Wilmington Life Chain had grown to include over 100 churches with some 2000 participants. In recent years, those numbers have fallen. Life Chain is held annually on the first Sunday of October. |
